In association with Landau Forte College Learning in the Academies' movement
As the shapers of change and innovation, Academies have always put radical approaches to students' learning at the heart of their work. With more schools - primary and secondary - having the opportunity to become Academies in the near future, our Autumn conference provides an opportunity to appraise those approaches to learning that are securing impact and success at the moment. As well as our internationally renowned keynote speakers, we have a wide range of seminars from practitioners whose ground-breaking work is changing the life opportunities of young people.
Professor Guy Claxton has secured a global reputation as a result of his lifelong commitment to how people learn. An inspirational speaker, author of many seminal books (Wise Up: the challenge of lifelong learning, Hare Brain Tortoise Mind, Building Learning Power, What's the point of school?) and co-Director for the Centre for Real World Learning - he is well-qulaified to provide an overview of the imperatives for our schools and the young people they serve.
We have been fortunate to work with a diverse range of hugely innovative schools, Academies, school leaders, teachers and students. They will be telling their diverse and stimulating stories. For example, David Armstrong transforming learning with primary age children in Milton Keynes, the teachers of Wren Academy who have started their new school with learning at the heart and students' voice to the fore, Macmillan Academy world leaders in Outdoor Education and the year 8 Baccalaureate, our hosts - Landau Forte - who have continued to explore and develop how students learn over the years and many more individual teachers - from all corners of the UK - who have championed approaches in their classroom that have inspired young people and enhanced their performance.
This day is designed to celebrate the diverse ways in which Academies have worked to build students' learning habits and to offer guidance for those who know that they want to innovate in the future.
