    - Park View Community School in Chester-le-Street is an experienced learning power school. Find out how their journey involved creating a radically different curriculum.
  • Reflect on: How these examples might benefit your school & students.
This showcase day offers you a unique opportunity to hear from two schools that are deepening their students’ learning using the work of Professor Guy Claxton, who originated Building Learning Power.

St. Edmund Arrowsmith started working on learning power last year and they are already seeing a positive impact on learning and teaching at the school. Park View School has several years, experience of deepening students learning habits, and has created a radically different competency-based curriculum.
By the end of the day you will:
  • have explored the schools’ strategic approaches to learning;
  • recognise how and why building students’ learning power is being adopted as a coherent reponse to the national learning agenda, including the PLTS;
  • appreciate how this approach to learning changes students’ experience, attitudes and achievement
  • have experienced the practice of building students’ learning power at first hand;
  • have considered the applications and implications of such work for your own school.

The day will be led by TLO, who have many years, experience of working with schools throughout the UK on deep learning, learning how to learn, and Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills. Senior consultant Steve Watson will be on hand to answer all your queries.

Join us and hear these remarkable stories of sustainable change based on a robust understanding of how students learn and those habits that support them as independent learners.
